Taiwanese Fruit Milks (Papaya, Mango, Sweet Potato)

I can’t begin to explain how iconic Taiwanese fruit milks are..at least in Taiwan!

One of my early childhood memories is of my grandma and I walking up to a street vendor (in Taiwan) and getting my first cup of Papaya Milk. It was so refreshing on a hot summer day! It’s widely popular in Taiwan, but not so much elsewhere. Thankfully, it’s not too hard to make!

Although papaya milk is Taiwans most famous and well loved beverage (not counting boba), there are many other fruit milks served as well. Today, we’re making my top 3: Papaya, Mango, and Sweet Potato!

Sweet potato isn’t as common as its predecessor, but it’s definitely worth a try! I’ve only tried it a couple times but every time I tried it, I’ve always craved more. It has a strong cinnamon flavor, almost tasting like pumpkin pie – but in the best way possible! Creamy, spiced, and custardy. It takes a little bit more work than the others but it’s worth it. You can also prepare the sweet potatoes in bulk and refrigerate them for later use!

Mango smoothies are abundant in Taiwan, especially during mango season from May – Sept. Taiwan is also known for a bunch of their other mango desserts like mango shaved ice! This mango smoothie comes out creamy, smooth, and tangy! Depending on what kind of mangoes you use and how ripe they are, they can range from sweet to tart! I like mine a little tart so I use the slightly green mangoes, but play around with it and discover which type you like!

The ultimate summer drinks! Refreshing and delicately sweet, these fruit milks are easy to make and perfect for summertime smoothies! Taiwan is a subtropical, making it humid all year round! To battle this, Taiwan created many different unique and refreshing drinks to battle the heat – fruit milks being one of the most popular!
